Northern Breezes Sailing School

Endeavour at the Tall Ships

Northern Breezes Sailing Schools Duluth branch is located in the exciting twin ports of the Duluth Superior Harbor. We offer American Sailing Association (ASA) classes for Basic Keelboat (ASA 101), Basic Coastal Cruising (ASA 103), Bareboat Charter (ASA 104) and Advanced Coastal Cruising (ASA 106) certification. Over winter we also offer Coastal Navigation (ASA105). All of our classes are conducted out of Barkers Island Marina located minutes from beautiful downtown Duluth in Superior, Wisconsin.

Duluth Tall Ships

2015 looks to be another great year with the next running of the Trans Superior Race and our school once again running 2 and maybe 3 boats in the Cruising Class. We will still offer a broad spectrum of activities from our normal ASA classes to fun flotillas and exciting offshore racing! We are also offering some new class times for those needing weekend and evening classes to fit their busy schedules!

We are still located at Barkers Island Marina. Barkers worked out well for us and our students last year with ample parking and a resort for those wishing to have accomodations right at the marina. The best part is that we are only minutes from downtown Duluth.

We have another big season planned and will be offering classes for everyone from Basic Keelboat through to Bareboat Charter, as well as Advanced Coastal Cruising for the more adventurous sailors. We are also available to work with you on your boat for sailing or docking training.

For the more laid back sailor or those just looking for some open water experience on the Great Lakes we offer flotilla's at the start and end of each season. To start off the season we run the Spring flotilla over the Memorial Day weekend with two vessels going from Duluth to Knife River, a day sail from Knife River to Knife River and then returning to Duluth on the Monday. Our parent school will be departing Duluth with us and travelling to Cornucopia and then Bayfield with 4 other sailing vessels. It's a fun and sometimes challenging sailing experience and a great way to start the sailing season whether you are an experienced sailor or not. More...

About the Duluth / Superior Location

Captain Mike Bastin manages the Duluth location and is the lead instructor. All of our instructors are licensed United States Coast Guard (USCG) Masters and American Sailing Association (ASA) certified sailing instructors. Classes are conducted on a fleet of well-maintained Hunter sailboats.

Not interested in sailing lessons then maybe a day charter or sunset cruise is more your style? Whether you want to experience racing, relax under sail with friends, watch the tall ships coming into the harbor, or just experience sailing, we offer captained charters. Charters cruises can be half-day (4 hours), full-day (8 hours) or sunset (3 hours). Charters will be available from June 1st until September 30th and are subject to weather and boat availability. Contact us in advance to arrange the details for your charter. Go to Charters for more details.

Sailing has taught us to be flexible, so if don't find exactly what you need on this website contact us and we’ll try to find a solution that works for you.
