Northern Breezes Sailing Schools Duluth branch is located in the exciting twin ports of the Duluth Superior Harbor. We offer American Sailing Association (ASA) classes for Basic Keelboat (ASA 101), Basic Coastal Cruising (ASA 103), Bareboat Charter (ASA 104) and Advanced Coastal Cruising (ASA 106) certification. All of our classes are conducted out of Harbor Cove Marina in the beautiful city of Duluth, Minnesota.

2013 is going to be a big year on the water in Duluth. Tall Ships® Duluth 2013 is bringing a fleet of Tall Ships to our fair harbour for a festival that is planned to be even bigger than the one in 2010. We will be offering Captained Harbor rides to take a look at these magnificent vessels during the week of the festival.

Another big event is the 2013 running of the Trans Superior race from Sault St. Marie to Duluth. Northern Breezes is always represented in this race by Aerie from our parent school and this year Endeavour will be joining her in the Cruising Class. If you have ever wanted to experience a long distance offshore race then this is the one for you! Crew positions are available on both vessels but are filling up fast.

For the more laid back sailor or those just looking for some open water experience on the Great Lakes we offer flotilla's at the start and end of each season. This spring starting on May 25th we will be departing Duluth in company with 3 other sailing vessels and heading initially to Cornucopia. There we part company with them and spend the second night in Knife River before heading back to Duluth on the final day. This is a great way to start the sailing season. More...

About the Duluth Location

Captain Mike Bastin manages the Duluth location and is the lead instructor. All of our instructors are licensed United States Coast Guard (USCG) Masters and American Sailing Association (ASA) certified sailing instructors. Classes are conducted on a fleet of well-maintained late model Hunter sailboats.

Not interested in sailing lessons then maybe a day charter or sunset cruise is more your style? Whether you want to experience racing, relax under sail with friends, watch the tall ships coming into the harbor, or just experience sailing, we offer captained charters. Charters cruises can be half-day (4 hours), full-day (8 hours) or sunset (3 hours). Charters will be available from June 1st until September 30th, subject to weather and boat availability.
